Traveling the World Alone? Here are 10 Benefits of Solo Travel

by Lauren West @ Television of Nomads

Traveling the world alone. Sounds daunting, right? For those who have never done it, “solo travel” may seem unattainable, scary, even dangerous. The thought of solo travel, for many, brings up so many what if’s that you just may scare yourself out of taking the solo travel leap altogether. Don’t. Here’s the thing. Solo travel is more attainable now than ever before. Wiggle your fingertips at the crest of a keyboard, and you have all the digital tools at your disposal to find the best places to travel solo, book everything you need, and head off next Tuesday. Indeed, traveling the world alone has never been easier, and your ability to make a positive impact while you travel is stronger than ever before. In fact, in less than a week I’ll be setting sail with Fathom on their Caribbean cruise, a culturally immersive travel experience and, incidentally, the perfect setting for solo travel. More a journey than a cruise, per se, Fathom offers the chance for strangers to come together with the common goal of making a positive impact on the places you visit. The inherently collaborative style of Fathom trips, with the chance to cooperate with other travelers and work with locals to benefit their communities, makes them some […]

Vietnamese food near Hobby Airport? Try Bun Bo Hue Co Do

Houston Chronicle

I am a spring-roll aficionado, often prowling the city in search of the tasty Asian wraps. If you are too, you really should know about Bun Bo Hue Co Do, a little restaurant near Hobby Airport. Do not be deterred by the barred windows on its unassuming strip-mall storefront. The hidden gem doesn't have a website, either. But it does have the best spring rolls I've found in Houston, bar none. The rice paper is translucent and gossamer, a rebuttal to the microwaved leather common at less meticulous establishments. The savory grilled pork within is still warm from the grill, a wonderful contrast with the coolness of the crisp greens and fresh herbs. A pair of made-to-order rolls costs just $4.
