Working out with Your Baby

by noreply@blogger.com (Mama Escapade) @ Me as a Mama

Today I decided that I am going to make workout videos with Parker. New moms are busy with whatever and going to the gym is not in the plans. I will have to admit that I have time to workout at the gym but I rather spend that quality time with Parker.

I am going to share the workouts I've been doing for the last 6 months. I've lost all the pregnancy weight plus several more lbs.  Three days after giving birth, my waist was 36.5" with 37.5" hip size. Now 9 days before my 7 month, my waist is 28.5" and my hips are 33 inches.

I don't have one of those rigid diets where all you eat is grilled chicken with steamed veggies and no carbs. I love carbs and being Asian, I need my rice.  Chicken is not my protein of choice.  As a matter of fact, I eat whatever that's convenient (just not a #1 from McDonald every day). My guilty pleasure has been an 8oz can of soda every night since a month after birth.

It worked for me so I'm sure it will work for you. It's fun and doesn't feel like you're working out. Just about 15 minutes a day to boost your self confidence.

My husband thinks I'm crazy. And yes, I am crazy!

You can do it mamas!!!!

Breaking most of the rules...

by noreply@blogger.com (Mama Escapade) @ Me as a Mama

My mom had an appointment today so that means no one was monitoring my every move. So I broke a lot of rules today. First thing, I took a quick shower but didn't wash my hair. I feel so fresh so clean. Next up, a nice cold drink. I love me some Veryfine Fruit Punch. Lunch, I had a large cheese pizza and French fries. Oh boy! It was greasy and fatty heaven making up for the past two weeks of blandness.

I hate to admit it but the steam bath is very beneficial during the one month confinement.  Steam bath (song) is a vietnamese remedy for a lot of things. It cures the common cold, congestion and lots of other conditions. There are certain batches of herbal formulas that you use for certain ailment. For me, my parents got the postpartum recovery ones from the medicine and herb store in Chinatown.

If you are battling with your parents and your generation cultural beliefs, forego the other shenanigans and just do the steam bath unless you like being trapped and cared for a month.  It's just like a steam room but in a more confined space under a blanket and have a funky smell.  It's very refreshing and cleanse your skin along with blood circulation.  Also, the insane amount of sweating does help with bringing the body back into shape. It's been 17 days and I've lost 3.5 inches off my waist and that's from being a lazy person and lounging around.  I also use a belly bandit and a warm water bottle for the belly but I think it mostly due to the steam bath.

Food for the Soul: Eating Your Way Through Vietnam | Vietnamese Food Lovers

Food for the Soul: Eating Your Way Through Vietnam | Vietnamese Food Lovers

Vietnamese Food Lovers

You’ve probably seen this many times: a person sitting at a metal table at a hole-in-the-wall eatery, face held parallel to the plate or bowl in strong focus. In Vietnam, food isn’t just nutrition, it’s a philosophy – beautiful, complex and simple all at once. And lucky you – you can experience it yourself. A Family Affair Vietnamese food is not just an assortment of ingredients made in a specific manner. That’s a recipe, not a cuisine. At its most fundamental, Vietnamese food is both an idea and an experience. First and foremost, it’s a cuisine that celebrates the idea of family. As the writers of Golden Spoon & the Quintessence of Vietnamese Cuisine point out, “In Vietnamese culture, the family meal is always something holy. It is not only a place for reunion, but also a moment for connection, sharing [and] warmth that everyone saves for each other.” Walk around Saigon’s streets at night, and you’ll see this happy communion of souls at many a bia hoi and sidewalk restaurant: large groups laughing, shouting and cheersing over gigantic, family-style spreads of stir fries or communal hot pots. The Spice of Life However, what is most integral to Vietnamese food? For renowned Vietnamese chef Chiem Thanh Long,
