Exploring by cycle

by trekviet @ Vietnam Cycling and Hiking Tours, walking, trekking, trek, hike, ramble holiday in Vietnam

DCIM100GOPROGOPR0227. Exploring by cycle or  cycling is fast becoming a trend that not only appeals to the healthy youth ready to backpack, but to a larger demographic of tourists who want to go deeper, and in a more authentic way, in to a country. Vietnam tours are unique in this aspect, as the country boasts over 30 million motorcycles and countless bicycles.   Despite the rough roads and somewhat unreliable public transportation, the country is extremely bike friendly. This is something the intrepid and adventurous cyclist can take advantage of. Exploring on a motorbike can also be a great excuse to linger at your favourite beach, or maybe spend a night or two at that hotel you have been reading so much about in Hanoi.   Why a Bike? DCIM100GOPROGOPR0227. Navigating through the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh may sound like a nightmare, as Vietnam truly has some of the worst traffic in Southeast Asia. But your bike (motor or cycle) will easily squeeze through the traffic and you will easily be able to find great parking spaces all around the city. When travelling further afield on Vietnam tours, many buses and ferries allow bikes to travel, which [...]

Snorkeling in Nha Trang with Vietnam Snorkeling Tours

by Tasha Amy @ Backpackers Wanderlust

An Under Water  World With Vietnam Snorkeling… Nha Trang no doubt is a tourist hub in Vietnam, with a lot more of a Western influence than other areas of the country. Most signs and menus are in Vietnamese or Russian, and unfortunately for me I speak neither of these languages. This promoted me to jump online to search the generic ‘what to do in nha trang’, of course the typical hire a beach chair, visit Vinpearl, came up. Though, what truly caught my eye was the chance to go snorkeling in Nha Trang. A tour with Vietnam Snorkeling popped up, and after reading some reviews and seeing what my hostel said about it I decided to go ahead and book. Side note- book online as prices are generally cheaper than booking through your hostel as they will be earning a commission, this was the case for me anyway. How I Book Cheap Transport In Vietnam: Baolau.com Where To Go Snorkeling In Nha Trang? Lucky for ocean lovers like me, Nha Trang has over 12,00 hectares of official marine reserve.

Hacer Dedo: Hitchhiking in Patagonia | Argentina

by Taylor Record @ Travel Outlandish

After trekking the O Circuit in Torres del Paine, I found it almost impossible to leave Puerto Natales. The town itself was uninspiring but I made a tight group of friends on the trail. We hiked together, so it was only right that we drank too many celebratory beers together too. But as it happens when traveling, we had to move on, one by one. I planned to take the bus eventually, but only when my feet stopped hurting, when I felt ready to go, when everyone else left. In truth, it had been days and I hadn’t even bothered with the walk to the bus station. When my hostel roommate suggested hitchhiking to Argentina, and asked me to come along, I had no excuse for a “no”. Thinking about hitchhiking in Argentina? Hitchhiking from Puerto Natales to El Calafaté was one of my weird highlights of South America. You’ll find specific details on hitchhiking Argentina at the end of this post! El Cuento de Hacer Dedo Off to a Late Start | Puerto Natales to Ruta 40 We started out hours later than we should have. It was around 1pm by the time we got to the road, and we expected the […]

The Cheapest Tour Of The Cu Chi Tunnels, Ho Chi Minh City

by Tasha Amy @ Backpackers Wanderlust

Taking A $6.00 Tour Of Cu Chi Tunnels – Do I Regret It? I am not usually one to go into a travel agency to book a tour, though when it came to visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels in Hoi Chi Minh City I had no idea where to start. I knew I could not do it myself. There was no way I would survive being on a motorbike in that traffic and I was no confident taking public transport. Booking a tour would be the only way to go. If you have visited a Vietnamese City you will agree with me on one thing, travel agencies are everywhere and it can be difficult to tell which are legitimate or not. Vietnam is a country not just known for its counterfeit goods, but also counterfeit companies. We kind of winged it and decided to book with the ‘most’ legitimate looking company. Basically this just meant shiny floors, a professional setup and nice staff members. It is located along Bùi Viện, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, just down from Gotcha! fast food restaurant on the opposite side of the road.   Bike Girl Goes On Hiatus Bike Girl has been missing from the internet for some time now, yet she still continues to receive emails from loyal readers. What do you think? Should Bike Girl begin to post again, albeit somewhat infrequently, or should our fair protagonist retire from this blog permanently?       Arc’teryx A2B Commuter Pants – $139 If Giro took the approach of making as few changes as possible to the Gap chinos model, then Arc’teryx went the opposite route. Water-repellant and quick drying with articulated knees and lots of reflective stuff (cuffs and pocket flaps), these look very functional. The technical details befit Arc’teryx’s reputation for high-performance. Luckily, the price-point is lower than I would expect from this company. A lot of my friends express frustration at having products dumbed down or flowered up when a women’s size is finally released. Arc’teryx gets points for making these just like the men’s model, just sized differently. Unfortunately, there’s still a double standard in the workplace. There are men who work in my building who could get away with wearing these to the office, but it wouldn’t fly for me. I need something a little more polished. [...]
