5 things not to miss in Quebec City

by Julie @ The Red Headed Traveler

And did I mention they were free? As I would discover, Quebec City is  one of those cities where the best thing to do is to soak up its incredibly beautiful and historic ambiance. It's on par with cities like Charleston and New Orleans in that regard.  Sure, there are definitely attractions you can visit where you will have to pay to enter and I did for one of them (post coming soon on that), but for the most part, the money I spent in Quebec City (save for lodging) was for a food tour

Universal Hub

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let the owners of the shuttered Sa Pa Vietnamese restaurant on Beacon Street in Cleveland Circle as a sit-down Asian restaurant with a bar. Manager Frank Schillace said the previous "Chipotle-like" format, in which customers would order, cafeteria style, then find a seat, proved to be a money loser - $20,000 to $30,000 a month, he told the board at a hearing today. Exploring the world of Omani cuisine

by Julie @ The Red Headed Traveler

The Middle East is a region that continues to escape me. And it's certainly not due to lack of interest. There are the countries there that I've always had immense interest in (Israel, Jordan, Egypt) and then there are countries like Oman that have catapulted to the top of my list due to its cuisine. And if you think all "Middle Eastern" food is the same then clearly you've never looked at a map and examined the unique geography there.

Quebec City Eating

by Julie @ The Red Headed Traveler

Even with going on a food tour, I still had ample opportunity to try a a variety of dining spots when I was in Quebec City back in December. For most visitors to Quebec City, the city's Old Town will be your primary base of exploration although the nitty-gritty neighborhood of Saint-Roch is certainly getting a lot of buzz as of late especially in regards to a culinary regard. The city's Old Town is divided into a Lower and Upper Town and I ended up dining at an equal number of spots in those two sections.

Restaurant review-Saigon Restaurant & Bar: Cleveland

Restaurant review-Saigon Restaurant & Bar: Cleveland

The Red Headed Traveler

I've really grown to love Vietnamese food so I was pleased to discover there was a Vietnamese restaurant only a couple of blocks from our hotel. Saigon describes itself as an upscale Vietnamese restaurant, which it certainly was compared with some other Vietnamese restaurants I've eaten at that were more 'hole in the wall' style. The decor was Asian inspired but subdued (as we dined there only a couple of days after Valentine's Day, decorations for the holiday were still up).

Royal Myanmar Pittsburgh Restaurant Review

by Julie @ The Red Headed Traveler

I don't remember when I first heard about the Royal Myanmar restaurant here in Pittsburgh, although it wasn't too long ago. But for various reasons, it always (at our hands) eluded us even though we had never eaten Burmese food before and it was only a 15 minute drive away.  Last fall we finally made plans to go until we checked (before venturing out, fortunately) and found that they weren't open on Sundays. And then we tried to go on Monday, the day before Halloween,  only to literally be unable to get there due to the borough where the restaurant is located

The Best in Photos-2017

by Julie @ The Red Headed Traveler

As I mentioned in my Year in Review post, this year's travels were neither exotic nor far flung. But I did visit two new American states, a new Canadian province and territory, a brand new Canadian city I had wanted to visit for years, and had return visits to two American cities I hadn't been to in years (all of this on an extremely small amount of vacation time due to having gotten a new job and losing many days). So without further ado, here are my ten favorite photos from the past year in no particular order.
