Waterbom Waterpark in Bali [Asia’s #1 Waterpark]

by Jo @ Wander With Jo

I always feel I am a kid at heart and age is just a number. So while traveling; amusement / water parks are always on my list. Once done with the formalities of getting the tickets and wristbands with money loaded onto it (no cash/card accepted inside the park), we were off towards the lockers and changing area for a fun filled experience ahead. Although the ticket counter was not too crowded, it [...]

Hi Alexis! Da Nang is pretty different than Hoi An. Da Nang is a bit more developed and has the nicer beach these days but Hoi An has the fantastic night market and a slower city kind of feel to it. We stayed in both for about 5 days each and they have their own character and charm. The Marble Mountains are right in between the two as well! When we went to Hue we hired a driver and he gave us some facts as we drove to each place but he didn't come with us inside the places. We just did the research on our own about the history but took the drivers advice a bit on which places to go to, when and which places to skip. He was fantastic!

Created during a time (1959-1964) when American television seemed eerily clean and domestic, The Twilight Zone challenged viewers to examine a possibility of uncertainty beyond the comforts and assumptions of contemporary life. It was my favorite thing on TV. One episode in particular always stuck with me- A Stop at Willoughby. It brings up questions. Why would he dream of escaping to a sleepy village where the streets have no name and the children wear overalls and go fishing?

A STOP AT WILLOUGHBY is the story of an advertising executive named Gart. Gart feels endless pressure from his pugnacious boss and his minion-like coworkers at his New York City office during ... Read More »

Flat, small and easy to navigate on foot, Amsterdam is home to numerous parks, attractions and boasts more museums per capita than any other European capital. All of these attributes make it a great destination for a few-night stay with kids.

25 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE TRAVELING IN THAILAND

by Steven @ The Hungry Suitcase

Thailand, with over 26 million foreign entries in 2016, can be a very touristic place to visit. By some accounts, 20% of the Thai GDP is based on tourism (worldwide nations average about 10%). Thailand is often an entry point for all of Asia, a constant revolving door of tourists on short or extended trips. We’re writing this article to help you avoid getting your hand caught in that often dangerous door.

Thailand is a country that can live up to its high expectations and reputation. It really can be paradise. On the other hand, it can be a disappointing place filled with drunken pub crawlers, tourist scams, empty promises and subpar made-for-tourists versions of local dishes. Pantai Pandawa (Aka Pandawa Beach) BALI

by Guest Blogger @ Wander With Jo

This is a guest post by Diganto Ozzy of WanderWithOzzy coz this is one of the beaches of Bali that I managed to miss in my quest to see all. I am going back though, so surely will cover tons more 🙂 For now, here’s an introduction to Pantai Pandawa (Aka Pandawa Beach).  Pandawa Beach was, until a few years ago was a hidden and secret beach, that was very difficult to access due to its location in the deep valley and surrounded by the white stone cliff. People had to go through small steps down on the cliff with dangerous valley underneath and the only local people who could access the beach were fishermen and seaweed farmer. The scene at Pantai Pandawa has completely changed over the years since locals have come together to construct roads by sculpting through the cliffs and is now accessible to everyone. Well paved road that has been constructed with utmost attention to make sure it is a smooth ride made Pandawa beach jump on the Bali beach map. Although the parking charge at IDR 15ooo is a tad high compared to other beaches, the area is still developing, so it might take a while [...]

Unforgettable Experience at Novotel Lombok Resort & Villas

by Jo @ Wander With Jo

Last week in Lombok was simply amazing. So much so that I am going back again in two days. We were staying at one of the prettiest properties on the island – Novotel Lombok, which totally enhanced our experience.  Lombok is barely a 30 minute boat ride away from Gili Trawangan (where we went to kick start 2018), so getting there is really easy.  The local boat made sure that my friends and I reached Bangsal harbour within time and swiftly, found a local taxi that was willing to ferry us to the hotel at a reasonable cost of IDR 300000.  A beautiful 2 hours and 30 minute drive through some amazing landscapes interrupted only by torrential downpour couldn’t dampen my spirits. With hilly roads for the initial portion of the journey, followed by wide open roads and wider intersections it was quite revealing to see that Lombok is still an island but with all the facilities. Although it is quite big in size as compared to Gili where the only modes of transport are bicycles and horse carts, it was a humbling experience for sure. First look at Novotel Lombok Resort & Villas Novotel Lombok Upon arrival at the [...]

Why Visit Tsomgo Lake in Gangtok, Sikkim [AKA CHANGU LAKE]

by Jo @ Wander With Jo

Tsomgo lake, also known as Changu lake, is a scenic glacier lake at an altitude of 3753 mtrs, located in Gangtok, Sikkim. This is one of the best high altitude lake in India, mainly due to its beauty which has given it a surge of popularity. So, while I was planning what to do in Sikkim, a visit to Tsomgo popped up as a “must-see”. And I have to agree… Short clip of Tsomgo Reasons to Visit The Stunning Tsomgo Lake Year round attraction Tsomgo lake looks spectacular in any season. With the alpine vegetation and flowers blooming in summer months or snow covered flats in winters. No matter when you choose to visit, you can enjoy excellent views all around. This is how it will look if you visit Tsomgo lake in November – Check out the stunning reflections 🙂 Yak Rides Visitors also come for Yak rides but as an animal lover, I would avoid them. It is much better to watch wild yaks chilling in these pristine valleys – trust me on that. “Say no to riding animals” Tame Yaks for rides Decorated to attract tourists 🙁 One of the Top Glacier Lakes of India Looking at the [...]

5 of SAIGON’S BEST HIDDEN COCKTAIL BARS

by Steven @ The Hungry Suitcase

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is a place of surprises, much of them elusive to first-time visitors with just a few days on the ground. Though a bit challenging at first, Ho Chi Minh City eventually became our favorite city in the world and a base for many of our adventures in the Southeast Asian region. Saigon doesn’t have a Times Square or Pudong. It’s a megacity comprised of small, distinct districts and alleys. Perch ... Read More »

10 THINGS I CAN’T TRAVEL WITHOUT

by Steven @ The Hungry Suitcase

Recently I’ve taken a four-month break off of travel to settle into a comfortable life in a quiet town. It’s been nice, mostly.

I do miss packing and unpacking the bags. I miss tossing away ripped up socks, giving away paperback books, and moving what’s left of my big shampoo into a small little shampoo thingy.

Some things are essential to have packed and ready to grab when I’m on the road. I will not include the obvious things like a camera, computer, passport, etc. These following are the little home run hitters that are easy to forget about, but always needed:

1. DENTAL FLOSS

I like to eat. I like to eat meat. I like eating late. My teeth are spaced fairly far apart from laughing too much. Stuff gets in there and I need to get it out. I’ve often been wandering ... Read More »

LIVE LIKE A LOCAL: RENT A SHORT-TERM APARTMENT WHILE TRAVELING

by Steven @ The Hungry Suitcase

If you want to experience the true life of a place, experience it like a local: get an apartment in a true neighborhood. Wake up to the sounds of street vendors and garbage trucks. Be recognized with a smile by your local noodle-slinger.

If a city strikes your fancy, rent an apartment for a month and stick around for awhile.

Another advantage of worldwide Internet networking is that it allows us to exchange short-term apartments without going through an agent or company. Check the New York City craigslist sublet page and you’ll find plenty of Parisians happy to exchange their Left Bank apartment for a little temporary stepping stone on the Upper West Side. Though apartment exchanges are rare in Asia, there are plenty of expats and locals alike who will be vacating their adobe and happy to have someone trustworthy in ... Read More »

Hidden places in Nairobi, Kenya that few travelers know about

How to Order Coffee in Vietnam Like a Local

Vietnam is a country that runs on coffee. There is a cafe on just about every block in Saigon and Hanoi and they’re packed most of the day with a mix of locals leisurely sipping away enjoying the day and others grabbing a quick fix on their way to wherever they’re headed. The cafe culture in Saigon is why it’s one of our favorite cities in the world. To see the list of our favorite Saigon cafes, check out our post on it.

Coffee is brewed differently in Vietnam. It’s sort of a mix between the French press and pourover methods and despite producing great coffee, it’s surprisingly “low tech”.
