10 THINGS TO SEE & DO IN HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM | Flying The Nest

Flying The Nest

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam’s largest city, is a vibrant mix of old and new. With well-preserved colonial structures and collections of war relics as well as sleek skyscrapers and humongous shopping malls within a bustling chaotic metropolis – this is a city you don’t want to skip. Here are 10 things you need to see & do during your visit to the lively Ho Chi Minh City.  1. Binh Tay Market Binh Tay Market, constructed by the French in the 1880s, is located in the centre of Vietnam’s largest Chinatown district. Also known as Cholon Chinatown Market, Binh Tay Market is found in a two-storey building along Thap Moui Street. Travellers can find little souvenirs and trinkets here, however it is best known for experiencing the local lifestyle and sampling unique Vietnamese-Chinese delicacies. 2. Cu Chi Tunnels The Cu Chi Tunnels are a must visit when travelling to Vietnam. These immense interconnecting network of tunnels served as a hiding place, living quarters and barracks for Vietnamese soldiers and their families during the war. Many travellers that we ran into told us to skip the Cu Chi Tunnels, but we are so glad we didn’t listen to them. We found our visit to be super interesting, …

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING SALAR DE UYUNI

by Jessica Valentine @ Flying The Nest

What is Salar De Uyuni Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world, an endless sheet of hexagonal tiles (created by the crystalline nature of the salt) – making for one of the most unique, and stunning landscapes to explore. At 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi), this salt flat is considered to be one of the most remarkable vistas in all of South America. During the wet season, the salt desert is transformed into a enormous salt lake! During this time, the shallow salt lake perfectly mirrors the sky, creating for some spectacular photographs. How many days should you visit? Some people opt to only do a day tour here, but we highly recommend opting for a 3-4 day tour that heads deeper in the Altiplano. If you only do a day tour you will never get to see the place at sunset (which is a must) and there is so much more to see if you venture out further into this spectacular landscape. On our Geckos Adventures trip, a 3 day jeep tour was included – and it was our favourite thing we did in all of Bolivia! What is the best time of year to […]

THE MOST UNIQUE WILDLIFE IN THE WORLD | GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

by Jessica Valentine @ Flying The Nest

The Galapagos has been a bucket list destination of ours ever since we watched David Attenborough’s Planet Earth. A visit here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, filled with incredible wildlife (on land and in the sea) as well as unspoilt beautiful islands. We had the incredible opportunity to visit Isabella Island for a few days while exploring Ecuador, and it was a highlight of our South America trip for sure! We only had a short time on the island and we knew we wanted to do at least one tour while there that would show off the uniqueness that Isabella has to offer. We wanted to experience a tour that allowed you to explore the land and the sea so we went for a Los Tuneles Tour with Nature Galapagos. We spent the day snorkeling in crystal clear waters, seeing blue footed boobies nesting with their newborns, swimming with Galapagos sharks and massive sea turtles, and exploring the unique Los Tuneles formed by lava! Best Snorkelling in the World: Los Tuneles After an hour boat ride we arrived at a mangrove forest that had grown up around a maze of underwater lava tunnels. We jumped straight into the water and weaved […]
