Why you NEED to visit the Magical Town of Füssen

by Nicola Easterby @ Polkadot Passport

Füssen is an enchanting little town is nestled amongst a cluster of majestic Bavarian mountains.  A sparkling turquoise river runs through its center, with cobble-stoned alleyways and a rainbow mirage of pastel-toned shop fronts lining its banks. It is most famously known for the fairytale-like Neuschwanstein Castle, yet even without this grand fortification, the town of Füssen is pretty magical in its own right. From the moment I stepped onto its cobblestoned streets, Füssen won my heart. In fact, after just two days of exploring the place, it became one of my most-loved towns in all of Europe. Located a quick one-hour train ride from Munich, Fussen is the perfect place to get away from the city, step back in time and experience the fairytale magic that this town emanates. I’ve put together a list of all the things you can do during your stay here… Top Things to do in Füssen 1. Visit the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle Nestled away in the rugged Bavarian mountains lies the magical Neuschwanstein castle, one of the most-visited tourist attractions in all of Germany. Inspiring the castle from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, this 19-th century fortification really is a fairy-tale dream come true, and is an absolute must-do if […]

Vietnam’s Best Kept Secret: An Escape to Paradise in Quy Nhon

by Nicola Easterby @ Polkadot Passport

I always find it mildly amusing when people call travelling a “holiday”. Anyone who has travelled (beyond a cruise ship or an all-inclusive resort) would know that travelling is as exhilarating as it is exhausting. Although I’ve spent the past few years galivanting across the world, I can’t tell you the last time I’ve taken a proper relaxing holiday… You know, the kind of holiday where you don’t feel like you need to do anything but lie by the pool with a book in one hand and a cocktail in the other. After four months of non-stop travels, a stay at a beachside resort in Vietnam could not have been more welcome. In fact, it was at the AVANI Resort in Quy Nhon that I discovered what it means to fully and completely relax. Four days of imbibing the view of sparkling blue water strewn with little fishing boats,  morning yoga classes amid lush greenery, swims in the bluest of oceans and massages to die for managed to iron every little stress away. This tranquil little haven could only be likened to a little piece of paradise- and a rather undiscovered one, at that.   QUY NHON: Vietnam’s Hidden Gem […]

Olive Oil is the New Wine

by Tiffany Dozier @ Visit Yolo County California, Davis, Winters, Clarksburg, Capay Valley, Woodland

March winds sweep across lowlands to undulating hills and valleys, where deep grasses rush like waves to an imaginary Mediterranean shore. In olive orchards, silvery white and green leaves shimmer on the zephyr and on warm autumn days, rich fruit dangles as precious jewels. Throughout Yolo County, they promise a bountiful treasure of liquid gold.

As in ancient times, the ripened fruit delivers a heavenly elixir. Among the oldest cultivated trees in the world, olives spread from Asia Minor (Turkey) to the Mediterranean thousands of years ago. The Mission varietal brought to Mexico as cuttings by Jesuit missionaries was first planted at Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá in 1769.
